DAN WAINWRIGHT
My name’s Dan Wainwright, I’m a jazzy psychedelic country ukulele player from St Helens.
I don’t believe there’s many people playing music the way that I do. Through live shows I improvise and weave my songs together and let go to play with my feelings and emotions at the forefront, creating a unique experience with every single live show.
My songs are about my life experiences and I aim to be as raw, honest and real as possible with my music as it helps me to make sense of my experience of life and connect with the world.
I’m inspired by the likes of Charlie Parr, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Billy Strings, Townes Van Zandts, Blaze Foley, Gillian Welch, Sierra Ferrell and Colter Wall. I love bluegrass, country, folk, blues and gospel music. I love songs about love, loss, hardships and heartache.
I play ukulele as a direct reaction to a long career spent as a music producer who used to hide behind perfectionism and big production. The ukulele is so small that it was a challenge to lay my heart on the line with nowhere to hide, and a big call to try and make the instrument do something musically it hasn’t done ever before.
